With Summer knocking on our door, I wanted to do an outside activity with Little N. Edible finger paint is the perfect activity for outdoor fun with your baby!
I put together some edible finger paint using baby cereal that was very successful when I was on mat leave with Little J.
But given Little N’s dairy intolerances, it’s been a little daunting to find a recipe that I could use for him that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg (dairy/soy free baby cereal isn’t cheap…).
So when I came across the recipe for a dairy-free edible paint option by @mothercould, I couldn’t resist trying it out – and what a success it was!
While her proportions are great, I altered her recipe slightly because I wasn’t 100% satisfied with the consistency. Here’s how I did it:
- 1/4 cup table salt
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 cup water
- liquid food colouring (you can also use gel, but the liquid makes the colours brighter)
Mix the salt and flour together.
Then add the liquid food colouring to the water and mix well.
Add to the dry contents and mix until there are no lumps left.
That’s it! Take the baby outside (or do this activity indoors if you’re feeling adventurous) and have them paint on a large piece of paper, or your deck! It doesn’t really matter as it’ll wash right off!
